March is Phoenix Arts Month!

In November of 2008, City of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon declared March "Phoenix Arts Month" to celebrate and recognize the growing downtown arts scene:

"Phoenix is becoming a vibrant place with a wide array of diverse cultural offerings. Experiencing the arts creates shared experiences that help us know who we are as a community and explore the fabric that makes up Phoenix."

One of the hallmark events that helped to shape the downtown arts scene is Art Detour. It started in the spring of 1989 as an artists' open studio tour and is now reported to be the largest, most well-attended art event of its kind in the country. It even spawned a monthly version of itself known as "First Friday" which begain in 1994. In its 21st year, this free, self-guided tour of artists' studios, galleries, and art-friendly businesses will be held the first weekend of March. Many of the spaces will have performances, musical guests, and Kids Detour activities. You can contact us (602.332.1849 artstudio6@gmail.com) for Detour maps and information!

Phoenix Arts Month is filled with major festivals, art exhibitions, music, theater, dance and much more. Check out the website for details on the other arts events this month!
